1. Cargo ships. On our harbor tour "cruise" we passed by such a humungous cargo ship - the biggest one on the Great Lakes. Tour guise said that if you could somehow stand the ship on end it would instantly be the tallest buiilding in MN, WI, IA, N&S Dakota, etc. It was big.
2. Grain elevators (also on the harbor tour.) We passed on huge grain elevator that , when full to capacity, would hold enough grain to feed the entire population of Africa for one year. Then we passed another grain elevator that held enough grain to make a sandwich for every.single.person. on planet earth!
3. Bridges over the Duluth harbor and St Louis River. My favorite is the Bong Bridge, at 8,300 feet. Not the longest bridge - I just like the name. I always imagined it was named for drugged-out northern hippies who wandered out onto the bridge while smoking their bongs then got all disoriented, fell into the harbor and were never heard of again. Turns out it's named after some dude called Richard Bong. How boring.
4. Mr Swami, twice a night. Jeez.
What's big where you live?
