Good News / Bad News

Good News:
1. The 14 x 20 back deck is all stained.
2. The color is perfect, just perfect. I put a teak stain over cedar boards so the deck would be the same color as the wood panelling in the family room. Good match.
3. I did not fall down the steps backwards, even though I tried to. Who knew the stupid steps would sneak up on me like that?

Bad News:
1. The swivel-head applicator pad & handle thing we bought at Menards totally sucks. It was uncontrollable swivelly when you wanted it to just glide, but when you wanted it to swivel so you could dip the pad into the stain tray it just wouldn't do it. Plus the head unscrewed itself at randon intervals and fell the eff off.
2. I may need traction.
3. I think Mr Swami should just cut the stupid applicator into pieces with the Saws-All and then burn the pieces.

Now I will finish my book, Dean Koontz's latest.

I Am On Vacation

Sort of. Mr Swami has this week off which makes my personal schedule all unpredictable. Very fun, but unpredictable. Plus he's a big fat computer hog so I can't just jump online willy-nilly like I usually do.

In a probably related development my butter dish has gone missing. Normally it sits in the exact same spot on my kitchen counter, where it is used mostly when I cook. Well yesterday we stopped at Kowalski's and got one of their fabulous garlic loaves so I thought I would have butteres bread for breakfast - something I rarely do. No butter dish. Not nowhere! Where could he have put it? He's still sleeping and it doesn't seem right to wake him up and demand "Where's my butter dish!!!"

I got 4 more parakeets. Free, off Craigslist, for a total of 7 birds now. If you have 7 pet dogs or 7 pet cats you may be nuts. But 7 pet birds? Perfectly acceptable.

Why I Didn't Go To Woodstock

The original, one & only, late, great Woodstock rock festival, from whence all other rock festivals have sprung. See, I was a young college student then. My school was about 40 miles from Woodstock NY. I liked rock n roll. I knew about the festival. I was planning to go in the early afternoon. Why didn't I go?

The day of the event, local radio began to report that the country roads leading into Woodstock were all blocked with traffic & abandoned old cars. There was no place to park your car anywhere near farmer whatsisname's field where the festival was held. People were abandoning their cars in the ditch and hiking a mile or 2 into the site of the festival. Local cops were talking about towing all the darn cars.

I? Had just taken possession of my very first car - a Plymouth Satellite - and I did.not.want.it.towed. It was my first car, dammit! It was brown & a year old but it was mine all mine!!!

So I missed Woodstock due to parking issues. And I've been kicking myself ever since. What was I thinking? And migawd that was 40 years ago this summer.

Tuesday Randoms (again)

What is it about Tuesday that makes me do randoms?

1. If you buy a cup of McDonald's coffee and then let it sit in your car's cup holder for 40 minutes while you grocery shop it will be at perfect drinking temperature when you're done. For me anyway.

2. One of my parakeets died last night. I figured there was something not right with her since she was always, always, always eating and never getting fat. RIP little birdie named after Gua Jing Jing.

3. Mr Swami likes to buy me stuff. Isn't he sweet? He bats about 500 on getting something for my collections that I really want. This weekend at some random sale he bought me a few horses for my Breyer Horse collection - and all but one of them were actually Breyers! So for $32 he got me about $75 worth of model horses.

4. Which reminds me that now I have to nag him into adding another wall shelf for my growing herd of model horses.

5. I hope to get my DISH service back today. I have been TV-less for more than 1 &1/2 weeks due to trees getting really tall in my neighbor's yard. Guy is here installing a 12 foot pole in my yard right now. (There is one small spot in my yard that can look through the forest canopy at the sky. Sat receiver must go there.)

6. A few days ago I hired a Climber to go up one of my 85 ft spruce trees and thin out a few branches just to be sure that there was enough opening. He also took down a nearby dead spruce of the same size. There's $500 I'll never see again!

7. Without any TV I followed events in strife-torn Iran via Twitter. It was very interesting and even kind of fun to follow news that way. I like Twitter. It's not so personal, but it's fun.

8. It was super-duper hot and stuffy inside my local post office this morning. Post Master informed me that they are not allowed to turn on the air conditioning until the indoor temp is 79 degrees! So I told her that I felt faint & woozy and was officially complaining of poor air quality. Evidently customer complaints don't count altho she thanked me for trying. Temp inside was stuck on 78'.

9. If I end on 9) Boo will have palpitations. Can't have that.

10. Oh! One more! Mr Swami and our DS are going out on their annual Man Long Weekend, leaving on Thursday. I think they are going to The Dells. They will hike, waterpark, play pool, eat pizza and watch Cartoon Network in their underwear. I will stay here at home base, eat couscous and hopefully watch some TV. I will also call both my sisters and my D in NY state so we can have nice long chats.

Mr. Swami Is Willing. Camera Is Weak.

photos added; scroll down

Lol - Mr Swami is quite willing for me to post a photo of his legs. Almost eager, one might say. Last night while we were getting ready for bed he handed me the camera for a photo. Since he was naked at the time I said, "Boy, you must trust me a lot!"

He said, "What? You won't put that in the photo."

I promised to crop the photo carefully before posting it, then tried to take a pic. The camera's battery was on it's last leg! So all I could see was a blur & it wouldn't even click. Camera is charging now - photo is coming soon, prolly tonight. I think I will insist he wear shorts jic I make a cropping error. Because my eyes aren't what they used to be. :)

As promised - the legs!

And again.

Um, some parts that aren't legs, and Mr. Swami's youngest sister. We all went for a paddleboat ride on the St Croix River.

What to feed a SIL.

Who Wants A Popover?

My new popover pan just arrived! Mr Swami loves popovers but they are never quite right when you make them in a muffin tin. Therefore, strictly in order to make Mr Swami happy I have acquired a genuine, deep-cup popover pan. Aren't I nice to Mr. Swami?

Yesterday, btw, was Mr. Swami's birthday - the big 6-0! And he doesn't look a day past 50. Although now with his temporarily gimpy leg (due to injured sciatic nerve) he might pass for 60. Unless he was in shorts - then he couldn't be past 45 or 50. I should post a pic of his legs, lol.

I Wet My Pants. Again.

Getting old is SO embarrassing.
I just can't outrun my oscillating sprinkler anymore. Every time I move it I have to turn the water off, reposition the darn thing and then turn the water back on. Such a nuisance.

GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gnats.

I was out in the garden for about 1 hour this morning & didn't realize how badly the gnats were biting me. I was looking & facing down so they got the back of my neck, my head, my ears... Now I'm scratching like crazy & making my neck bleed. And my back is starting to itch. Stupid.freaking.gnats!
*skritch*
