Forty years old today!
I am one of the few, the proud, who watched that first show in real time and was hooked for life. Oh, the scathing letters I wrote the network when they tried to cancel it that first time time!
I was first in line for the first showing of the first Star Trek movie in the Twin Cities! I have always liked James Tiberius Kirk, but my soul belongs to Spock. I grok Spock.
This should be a national holiday. That is all.

I was also going to mention the William Shatner Roast. It was hilarious. I love those roasts. They really do get nasty. It's so great that people can laugh at themselves.
Shatner's entrance was brilliant! And I love how nasty and dirty the roasters get yet everyone still has fun.
Did you see the audience! All kinds of Trek people were there, from all the Star Trek franchise shows. Seven of Nine was having a ball!
Betty White was hilarious too, when she talked about having sex with Shatner. I love dirty old women, lol. /end pot.kettle.black
I remember seeing Seven of Nine. She's such a hottie. I loved her character on the show.
Sulo (sp?) really took a good bashing. Again, it's terrific that they can all laugh at themselves. Betty White is a hoot! You really never expect to hear some of the stuff that comes out of her mouth LOL.

I never watched any of the Star Treks. Leonard Nimoy is coming to lecture at a speaker series a group I belong to is sponsoring. He'll be here in October. He's also promoting his book, a coffee-table book of photography, "Shekhina." It's more like pornography than photography, to me. Lots of naked ladies. I guess it's "beautiful nude women," but not what I'd expect from Mr. Spock.
I could just never get into that show. I don't think I'm a Sci Fi kinda gal.

SF has always been pretty much judgement-neutral on lesbians, Carey. FYI
Puffy, Leonard Nimoy used to hate being identified as Spock, but he got over it once he realized that after the series started in 1966 he never had to worry about where his paycheck was coming from again!
He wrote a book called I Am Not Spock, where he finally admitted that maybe he was Spock in some way, or Spock was a part of him since it was a character Nimoy created from his internal resources.
Spock was a sexier character than Kirk IMO. Kirk was randy & ready all the time; Spock you had to work for, lol.
Enjoy the lecture! Tell me how many times he gets asked about Star Trek, or if he refuses to talk about ST up front.

I wanted to be Uhuru when I grew up. *grin*
I knew there was another Trekkie among us! I just couldn't remember who it was. Trekkies rule! Jean-Luc was very hot. His Number One never turned me on though.
Chekov was cute, Augie, but he was no Ilya Kuryakin. Ba-dum.

Oh Swami - I would never call you old. I remember the fan club ads inside the comic book covers for the Ilya fan club. Now, about Star Trek - I watched half of each episode when they were on their first run, not the whole thing like you. Red Skelton was on the other channel (remember Gertrude and Heathcliffe, the seagulls?)when Star Trek was half over, and my parents ruled the TV. So I had to get the other half details at school and wait until I was a grown up to see them in reruns.
