Ring, ring.

I have done nothing all day but talk on the telephone. Long, long phone calls. It's weird but in my family everyone tends to call me on the same day. Then nothing for weeks.

Looks like Christmas is at my house this year - which is fine with me because I haven't had a big family Christmas in a long time! Tom may be a little stressed since the relatives are all mine. :)

Usually, when my grandson visits I try to take him & his mom to a Minneapolis Children's Theater show. He just loves that & we are all kinda theater fans anyway. Usually, it is also my treat. Now I have to figure out who gets treated and how to handle that because reservations for Christmas week are going quickly. I don't want to buy all 9 tickets at about $25 each for the 8 adults. I'm also not sure how to ask someone if they are really interested in a Children's Theater production or not (altho these are high quality, well-acted shows, scripted to be enjoyable by all.) It's just a complication, but I would hate to break my string of taking grandson to the theater.

Maybe I can assign everyone I don't take menu items or house-cleaning projects to work on while we're gone!

I say tell everyone you already had tickets for the show (they don't need to know any different-who cares if you don't sit together) and "here's the info to order tickets if you'd like to join us."

I bet anyone that doesn't go will offer to cook (unless it's just men, then you'll likely get "where did you leave the snacks" and you'll be updated upon return with the latest game scores).

I'm always torn about having the big family gatherings at my house. I enjoy not having to travel and like spending time with family, but hate the cleaning part and not being able to leave whenever I want.

I agree with Kim's idea. Or you could just say/email:

"Grandson, Daughter, and I are going . . . . If anyone is interested, tickets are $___." I think I like Kim's idea better.

I have mixed emotions about the hosting as well, mainly because I clean before and after.

I'm not a fan of hosting. I also don't like the travel which is why those we go to visit are a cab ride away.

Last year Carlos volunteered our place to host.

With two sisters not speaking to each other we had one family there from 6:30 to 9:30 and the second ones didn't show up until way past 10:00 pm.

We won't be hostng this year.

I forgot to mention that 6 of the people will be houseguests here for about a week, lol. Everyone gets along pretty well so that will not be a problem.

This was the year I was going to downsize, too. Instead I guess it is my last big bash! So from that point of view everything looks more positive. Tom has even suggested more outside lights! *boggle*
