Still Standing

My Christmas tree is still up, but 95% undressed. Usually, when I get everything I can reach off the tree I just tip her over and lay her on the ground so I can reach the last string of lights, the angel, and the few ornaments near the top. I can usually lower it slowly enough that even breakables on the top come down okay and still hooked.

But this year? Tom put two 40lb bags of cherrystone on either side of the tree stand to anchor it in case Graycie the kitten decided to climb. I'll be gosh-darned if I am going to throw out my back trying to pick up 2 heavy bags. And Tom won't be back until 11 tonight. So the tree stands, denuded, with one string of red glass beads hanging from the top and one strand of lights in the same position.

It looks so pathetic. This? Is the story of my life.

It's mid-afternoon and we have taken down the outside decorations. However, the tree and everything are still up inside.

At least from the outside we won't look like nerds with everything still up! We are NOT the last on the block to undecorate!

Update: Tom pulled off the bags of cherrystone this morning so I will be able to tip my tree today.

Also? I have decided I have too much holiday stuff so I am purging. Christmas came up from storage in 11 boxes. It is going back down in no more than 7. Three boxes for tree-related decorations, one box for Santa collection, one box for angel collection, one box for stair & wreathe decorations, one box for tabletop sleigh, reindeer & misc. (The outdoor stuff goes into an outdoor shed & isn't part of my purge.)

You should drape it or something. It must be embarrassed standing there nekkid. Although, it is pantless Wednesday.

I'm the same as you Kim. I haven't put up a tree in the last 3 years because we are always out of town for the holidays and more so because of all the cats.

It's always so strange when I come back from holidays and everyone's Xmas decorations are gone. We always had ours up until Jan. 7th because we would celebrate little Christmas.

We have yet to take down the outdoor lights, but the tree and all the other decorations are away. I have been through all the strands of lights and am THROWING OUT the ones that don't work. I am NOT saving them just in case. Just in case what, I can't imagine.

This weekend: trip to the transfer station.
