...and a happy dance!
My middle DD has finally found a job! She will be working baggage security at MSP (Minneapolis / St Paul International airport, Lindberg terminal). This is a good job for her because she is not tied to a desk or an office - both things she hates - and she gets to move around and do a variety of stuff. She will have a level 4 security clearance which gives her access to all areas of the terminal.
First comes 2 weeks paid, in-class training, then a 90 day probationary internship where she is partnered with an existing employee while she learns the terminal building and the ins & outs of her job. Yesterday she got fingerprinted and peed in a cup and stuff to get her personal securiy background check started.
I sure hope this works out for her, because she has been looking for a job that matches her interests for a looong time. The job is four ten hour days, another plus!

Yay for DD. In her training, will they teach her valuable lessons like how to blame the traveler for lost baggage and how to select luggage for "random inspection" based on who's likely to have the most embarrassing personal items packed?
Yay! I'm jealous. I always wanted to work in an airport. I don't know why. So many secret doors and such.
Yay for her! Ooooh, does she get to randomly search people? I can think of quite a few people I'd like to randomly search.
She is all behind-the-scenes and will have nothing to do with the TSA screening show. Which suits her just fine.
Boo, there are not really any people I want to search, but I wouldn't mind snooping through their houses. You know, strictly for security purposes...
Kim, I've had back room airport "tours" (years ago, when we were mostly a trustworthy people) and my memory of non-public spaces is that they are big, utilitarian & industrial, and not particularly fun. Plus a nervy baggage handler yelled at me. Could he not see I was with a Big Time Pilot? There were people on assorted riding machines driving all over.
I have given DD strict instructions that she not get sucked into a jet engine. One of the things she wants to learn is how to wave the airplanes around in the gate area - which means standing in front of the darn things and doing those semaphore waves.
*hops* How exciting! What a cool job. I'd love to do that job too!
Hope everything goes well during the training and probationary period. I'm sure you'll be holding your breath until it's all over. *grin* I know I would. But then your daughter may be more responsible than my son. *snicker*

Lights, I've already started holding my breath. She's very responsible; also very distractable.
Puffy, after she has worked for one year Mr Swami & I can fly free standby anywhere served by NW/Delta/Mesabi & whatever other airlines are in that family. Which is pretty darn cool.
