They're Ba-aack!

My middle D, age 25, & her BF moved into their first apt last fall. It was a very good experience in growing up for both of them, and best of all they weren't underfoot here all the time anymore. I love my D but she & I are just not meant to share a house at this time in her (and my?) life. It doesn't work. She can't keep teenage resentments & 'oversights' out of the equation and thus I wind up never sure if I am responding appropriately to her.

Anyway, they decided that they can't save for a house while paying $700 for their nice apt in the nice apt complex. So they will be moving into a basement mother-in-law apt that his mom has in a nearby (12 miles away) suburb. I think she is over-charging them for rent ($400) considering that she otherwise would not rent the space and she will continually require her son to do misc yard & maintenance work - but that is just my opinion. They are also paying 1/2 the cost ($600) of expanding a bedroom to fit their needs.

So while the bedroom expansion goes on they are here. And a bunch of their boxes of stuff, two kitchen chairs and a swivel rocker are blocking my main hallway. I'm just not happy. And I know talking about it is going to produce an attack of teenager syndrome from my D.

I was liking my empty nest!
And now Mr Swami can't walk around naked anymore. :(

So is the MIL going to rent out the newly renovated suite once the kidlets move out to their own house? If so, I would disagree with the kids paying for half the reno. They get nothing out of it. Just my .02

Think of their time with you as temporary.

And your hubby can always walk around naked. They may not appreciate it and it will make the renos move along quicker.

Lol MC! I'll tell him to get naked right away! He may be shy though, and D would probably think her bf was totally inadequate, ifyouknowwhatimean.
