Really dirty.
This is week two of life without that miracle of modern technology, that supreme technological achievement - a clothes washing machine. Oh, how I miss my lovely, lovely Asko. Also? Beating clothes on rocks is sucky, hard work.
On the bright side - I am trying out some new looks! I found some old favorite t-shirts from the 80s that still look pretty good. Sometimes, with a carefully placed safety pin, you can wear old, saggy pants. Sheesh,
At least panties are easy. You can wash a whole bunch of those in a bowl in the kitchen sink, no problems.
We had a major part failure. To fox it is almost half the cost of new machine but we opted to fix it because the washer & dryer pair are supposed to go for another 8 years. I like 'em, and I don't want to buy just a new washer and then have an unmatched set, and I don't want to spend big bucks on an all-new set. Sadly, it appears that the part I need is being shipped from Sweden on a Viking ship. An express Viking ship! But it's still taking too long. Damn Vikings.
So that's where I have been. Beating clothes on a rock.

Oh no. How long has it been? Is there a laundry mat nearby that you could go to? I remember have to go to the laundry mat serveral years back when our washer broke. The only thing I like about it is that you can do all of your clothes at one time, and they have those nice big tables for folding.
I've missed you! I was out a washing machine for about seven days and that didn't really kill me. As Boo said, we went to the laundromat, and it hasn't been that long since that was how we used to do ALL our laundry, so I didn't feel put out.
I'm very concerned about packing light for Italy. I don't want to waste time going to a laundromat, but I think it's inevitable.
Hope you part arrives sooner than expected!
It broke down one week ago, Boo, when both Mr Swami and I had full laundry baskets. *sigh*
Soon I will have to go to a laundromat. Or take the laundry to my sister's. I think I'd rather just do the laundromat and get it all done in one fell swoop.
Kim, visiting a foreign laundromat would be a blog post on all it's own.
Plus now I worry about bedbugs in a public laundromat.
Sure does beat smacking your head into a wall.
I despise laundry mats. But if ya gotta, then ya gotta.
Oooh,I never thought about bed bugs in a laundromat. I was at the Historical Sociey Museum in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, today. They had a letter from a grandmother to her granddaughter, a new bride. It explained how to do laundry. She made starch from flour and water. A diary from the 1930's had an entry confessing that the writer broke the Sabbath: she ironed on the Sabbath!
Laundromats are NO FUN! My town does have a brand new spiffy one, so if I had to go I think it would okay. I really need to replace the washer/dryer. And soon. I think they both are about 15 years old. The dryer takes FOREVER to dry.
Tell me more about Asko. I have been looking at the Bosch Vison set.
